<span style="color: #000000;"> Class Description: Students will focus on core fundamentals of soloing and improvisation.  Basic playing skills are recommended for any student as the camp will focus on reading and developing a better understanding of how to create and improvise melodies over basic rhythmic and harmonic examples.  Students will also be introduced to listening and understanding classic and contemporary blues &amp; jazz performers and their improvisation styles.</span></p>

<span style="color: #000000;"> Age:  Experience Level: 13 and up (must have faculty approval or recommendation)</span><br />

<span style="color: #000000;"> Class Description:  Focusing on a continuation of intermediate and advanced performance fundamentals, the advanced band camp will bring together many of the concepts from previous Stillwater summer camps.  Students will focus understanding advanced performance fundamentals, including intermediate/advanced chart reading, melodic/harmonic memorization, rhythm/style changes, and improvisation &amp; soloing.  Intermediate to advanced level students are encouraged to register for this camp.</span></p>

<span style="color: #000000;"> Class description: Students will focus on the unique challenges and advantages of playing string instruments in blues, jazz, funk, rock and pop styles.  We will cover bowing techniques, tone production, rhythmic playing, soloing over chord changes, free improvisation and the basics of sound amplification and effects processing gear.  Techniques learned will be directly applicable to the Fusion Orchestra camp later in the summer.</span></p>

<span style="color: #000000;"> Faculty: Jeroen van Tyn, Evan Suiter</span><br />
<span style="color: #000000;"> Class description: Working in a medium-sized ensemble setting, students will learn to play tunes in a variety of styles including jazz, funk, latin and pop.  We will cover fundamentals of ensemble playing such as listening, blending sounds, soloing, music reading, basic music notation and the essentials of public performance.  This camp ends with a performance at a local venue in the early evening of Friday, June 28.</span></p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;"><strong>Drum Set Intensive Beg &#8211; Int &#8211; Adv</strong></span><br />

<span style="color: #000000;"> Age/Experience Levels: 10 and up</span><br />
<span style="color: #000000;"> Faculty: Steve Dejka</span><br />
<span style="color: #000000;"> Class Description: Students will explore sticking patterns &amp; orchestrations, applied formulas for drum set exercises, and rudimental applications for drum set.  Incorporating the basic concepts that I was taught early on by James Morton, one of my many private teachers during my youth (Author of numerous Mel Bay drum books). The material covered in this camp will provide exercises to practice for years to come. <strong>SUPPLIES NEEDED:  3 ring binder w/ 20 plastic inserts, drum sticks.</strong></span></p>

<span style="color: #000000;"> Class Description: Students will explore rhythms on congas and african drums, as well as harmony and melody on steel drums and marimba. An in house performance for parents will take place on Friday, June 28th at 11am.</span></p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;"><strong>Rhythm Section Intensive </strong></span><br />

<span style="color: #000000;"> Age/Experience Level 11-up (must have faculty approval or recommendation)</span><br />

<span style="color: #000000;"> Class Description: This intensive will focus on rhythm section skills; exploring how these instruments interact on a deeper level in styles including jazz, rock, blues, funk, and latin. The roll of &#8220;sideman&#8221; or backing musician will be discussed and explored. Enrollment will not exceed 4 of any one instrument: bass, drums, guitar, piano.</span></p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline; color: #000000;"><strong>Fusion Orchestra</strong></span><br />

<span style="color: #000000;"> Class Description:This unique camp will explore the modern &#8220;Pops/Rock&#8221; orchestra; strings, wood winds, and rhythm section. Many modern rock and pop bands have incorporated full orchestras into their tours and recordings in the modern age of music. In this first time Stillwater Camp students will discuss and explore this concept; rehearsing music to perform on Friday, July 19th.</span></p>

<span style="color: #000000;"> Class Description:  Our first Blues camp last year was a great success, we just had to offer it again this summer! This year&#8217;s camp will include our vocal/guitar instructor Robby Overfield; blending the blues styles of Kirk and gospel/soul styles of Robby. Students will discuss the history and development of American Blues. The week will culminate in a performance at a local venue in the early evening of August 9, followed by a performance by the Kirk James Blues Band.</span></p>

<span style="color: #000000;"> Class Description: The vocal I camp will cover the baseline fundamentals of vocal technique, pitch, ear development, group chorus.  The class will learn vocal exercises that help clarity, projection and note sustain.  A vocal performance will be scheduled for the last day of class at a location in town TBD.</span></p>
